Welcome to the website for specialty training in psychiatry, in the core and higher training programmes in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
We look forward to working with doctors joining our training in KSS, to ensure that you enjoy working with your patients, your clinical teams, and our education network.
The website outlines our responsibilities in providing your training, and your responsibility to ensure it goes well.
– Dr Alastair Forrest, Head of the School of Psychiatry, Health Education Kent, Surrey and Sussex (HEKSS)
Training in psychiatry in Kent, Surrey and Sussex combines full training programmes and academic opportunities within KSS with access to the wealth of academic activity in London – and in parallel you can enjoy our towns, countryside, and coastline while taking advantage of all London’s attractions and cultural interests.
Go to the Training Programme link below to learn more about our programmes, in Core Psychiatry and in Higher Specialty training in Forensic Psychiatry, General Adult and Older Adult Psychiatry (including Dual Training). New developments come on stream in 2018, in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and in Dual training in Medical Psychotherapy and General Adult Psychiatry.
Amongst our academic opportunities, the KSS-wide MRCPsych Courses offer a fully-funded PGCert, and can progress to an MSc. There is encouragement and support to present posters and papers at national and international events, and to complete and publish research. We have regularly provided bursaries and Fellowships.
Each of the three Mental Health Trusts delivering our training offers a wide range of experience, and local academic programmes, with teaching opportunities with medical students and our big cohort of Foundation doctors. Psychotherapy Tutors are in place in all our Trusts to deliver the Core and Higher curricular requirements.
