The HEE KSS training programme in Urology is one of the most popular training programmes in the country. The Programme provides General Urological training over a wide geographic area in a total of twelve NHS Trusts. This programme has been designed to more than adequately prepare trainees for CCT and independent Consultant practice in the United Kingdom. Curriculum
The urology curriculum provides a comprehensive outline of requirements covering all competencies.
The curriculum is integral to the e-portfolio and all the assessment requirements are mapped against it. All competencies must be supported by evidence. Each competency must be signed off by educational supervisors (and likely to be clinical supervisor with new ePortfolios) and must be supported with all evidence of trainees learning. This will ensure trainees’ ePortfolios are packed full of evidence that clinical activities.
It is essential that urology trainees and trainers understand this curriculum as their whole programme is based on it.

Teaching and Learning
The teaching programme is championed across the patch by a group of enthusiastic trainers covering all aspects of the Urology National Curriculum, Audit, QIPP, Leadership and Simulation training.
There are also annual in-service exams (MCQ) with mock ‘FRCS-style’ viva-voce are held one a year. All trainees are very well prepared for the FRCS examination and recent Gold Medal winners are alumni from this programme.
Training Days are always held on a Friday and attendance is mandatory. All of our trainers have embraced and support this ideal.
All trainees attend an Interim ARCP process in February of each year, with a small proportion being invited for a Final ARCOP review in July.
KSS Urology training pogramme evolved from the South Thames London Training Programme and, while now separated, twice yearly joint STC and Audit Prize Presentations are held for all trainees from both the KSS and London training programmes. These are very dynamic, and intellectually stimulating training and presentation opportunities for all trainees.
KSS Training Programme Directors continue to work closely with the RSM Section of Urology in providing additional teaching and presentation opportunities.
The Training Programme Directors are constantly reminded by the Trainees that this is the most ‘social’ training programme in the country. A terrific spirit of teaching, socializing and mutual support has evolved within the current group of trainees.
